Hi, we are Dana and Darren Andress at 1000 Pines Farm. We have 3 boys Nicholas, Eric and Paul. We purchased our 100 acre farm in December of 1999 and started raising alpacas here in the fall of 2003.
After working 20 years in a manufacturing plant, Darren decided to go back to his roots and try his hand in farming and raising livestock. He also provides off the farm services such as lawn maintance, tree trimming, snowplowing and compact tractor/ backhoe services. Darren is currently working on and off the farm full-time.
Dana's life long interest in animals lead her to research into a viable livestock investment to raise on the farm. Alpacas seemed like the perfect fit. The alpaca is easily managed, requires small pastures, and a basic shelter. They are low maintance, high reward. Dana is a Registered Nurse working in Kingston, Ont. The nursing background is a great assist in handling the alpacas health, nutrition and birthing.
The entire family participates in alpaca care. Everyone gives a little of themselves and we all benefit from knowing these intelligent and graceful creatures.
